What happens at 4 o'clock in evening will be at 9 o'clock at night on April 5

The Prime Minister of the largest democracy on Friday requested people to turn off all the lights for 9 minutes at 9 PM on April 5 with that he urged to light ‘Diyas’.

This may be an ordinary situation for most of us. But being an Electrical Engineering Student, and going much deeper into it, it is never a normal thing for those Electrical Engineers who are involved in Power Generation and Distribution Units.

In India, we have POSOCO which stands for Power System Operation and Corporation Limited is a National Load Dispatch Centre which maintains national electricity grids and also manages the real time problems. In our home we get the electricity through National, Regional and State Load Dispatch Centre. As per Ministry of Power the load demand on April 2 was 1,25,817 Mega Watts across the nation. Now, on the same date previous year the load was around 1,68,000 Mega Watts. So, Already there is a loss of 43000 Mega Watts. So, turning off the whole of the domestic & the industrial Load can create a holocaust.

The Grid Experts further told that if the light loads will be made off at evening 9 for 9 minutes the load situation will be same as the that happens at Evening 4’o Clock.  Hence, It is advised not to turn off the complete load of the building.

April 5, 2020 will be a day for us to kill Corona virus but concurrently it’ll be a big day for Electrical Engineers to save our grids in order to maintain the proper flow of electricity in mere future.
